Guava Jelly & Jar - 2024
Installation: Northart Members Exhibition - July 2024

In celebration of seasonal gifts, Guava Jelly & Jar (2024) playfully challenges the commodification of art as object. Guava berries, gathered with my mother from a century old hedge, are rendered into a clear, deep-red jelly in a respectful acknowledgement of the gifts proffered each year.  An annual process of making has become a seasonal celebration; one rooted in the indigeneity of the feminal spirit.  Material processes embody a generational coming together to share freely the gifts of human and other-than-human. The individually wrapped jars, gifted to visitors throughout the exhibition, re-establishes age-old practices of a gift economy.
